The reason I chose this clip from Evil Dead 2 is due to the exceptional camera work. The fluidity and dynamics of the movement are unparalleled by many films and make the film truly feel like a rollercoaster. The use of a handheld camera specifically is even more impressive and is something I am using as an example while heading into this session.

  • The film begins with our characters on their phone with pounds of work surrounding them. They continue to scroll on their phone as the work continuously piles up. Finally, they put their phone down and get to work.

TREATMENT (FILM)

  • The world of this film will be dreary and dark, to express the emotions of the characters at the time. Their wardrobe will also express this with generally darker colors. However, when they begin to get their work done the light will intensify freeing the world of the darkness.

SUMMARY

By March 1, as part of Team 4 as Cinematographer, I will have evidence of Exposing Film by following How to Expose Properly for Session 4. I did this by making a film that largely lacks moments of odd exposure and/or lighting. By putting in hard work and effort I could generally make a good-looking film.

I have grown through my ways of problem-solving in multiple ways. This includes how when our audio got corrupted I was able to adapt and quickly reshoot the scene to be just as good as the original.

I was a collaborator and communicator throughout our whole filming process. This was mainly based on my collaboration with my film team and all our different jobs, to make a cohesive film.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used information and media literacy throughout our film to create an easy production process. By having the info on when everyone was available to film, and what our schedule was we were able to make a complete film.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

I developed life and career skills throughout everything surrounding this film. Deadlines, organization, and collaboration, all were vital to having our team be a coherent group. These life and career skills will benefit me later on and help our film now.

Reactions to the Final Version

Sawyer: “The film could have been slightly longer”. This is good to take into consideration but with a few more heist scenes our film could have felt more full.

James: “The montage was really good.” This while not a critic is good to consider in the process of our film as it shows that our work did pay off.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

In retrospect, I am very pleased with our film. We had a very smooth route to the completion of this project, and I feel as if that is all based on our team’s coherency as a group. This project allowed us to streamline our workflow which makes me very excited for our next film.

Rina Yang is a modern cinematographer working her way to becoming a household name. She works on using dynamic cinematography that mimics the real world. This is shown through her modern style of striving not for perfection, but for the beauty of the shots. Often she works not for a clearer image, but rather for a clearer grasp of the film. Ideally,, I could incorporate some of her style into our film.

I was a creative thinker through our location scouting and use of the PAC, a location we would normally not have access to. This new location allowed more space to create dynamic camera shots and movements.

I communicated thoroughly with my team about my absences and how they were unfortunately extended. This allowed me to use communication skills online with my ever-changing.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used information to construct the preproduction of our film so that we would have a smooth production. This was done by researching our ideas and planning thoroughly before production.

Reactions to the Final Version

James Clark: James found are pacing and dialogue to be very good as it flowed naturally while simultaneously moving the film along. This is a strength that I am proud are film met.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

Overall I am thrilled with our finished project. The dialogue and the choreography allowed a dynamic sharp film that was very good. I do wish I had been present for more of the filming, as this would have allowed for more flexibility in filming, and the allowance of me to be involved. Overall I am overjoyed with the end product of this film and how well its plot flowed.

Roger Deakins is one of the most highly regarded and incredible cinematographers in the world. His use of complex lighting and color constantly adds an atmosphere unrepeatable by most cinematographers. He uses this to create in-depth scenes that accentuate the characters, plot, and world using cinematography.

  • 0:41 I can use this technique to create a silhouette that can increase the mystery and tension of the film.
  • 1:45 By lighting shadows on a face it can create a darker and moodier atmosphere.

In our film “The Pencil” we worked to create a fun engaging film that would ideally bring some laughter to audiences. Some skills to look for throughout the film are the atmosphere and colors, which we worked to make bright and fun. This relates to my Smart goal of having color-full lighting that truly makes our film a fun, bright, and enjoyable watch.

Throughout the creation of our film, I was creative and innovative through my use of cinematography. This was largely through the framing of certain shots such as the stair scene and green screen scene.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

I was a communicator/collaborator through how I communicated with our team. This was specifically on what changes would need to be made mid-filming, such as altering the stair scene.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used tutorials in order to learn more about filmmaking. I was then able to translate these skills into our film production.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

Throughout this Film, I developed teamwork and communication skills. These can be translated into future careers when working with others.

Reactions to the Final Version

Erik thought our film needed more coherency with the plot meaning that it should have had more plot beats referencing the pencil throughout the film.

Miles thought that the film lacked good lighting throughout the school scenes which I can work to improve in the next session

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I believe that we have created a fun dynamic comedy that made audiences laugh. While there are certain aspects to improve on such as certain lighting and plot coherency I am overall very happy with the outcome of the film.

He always has such intricate visions that he can shape them into realities. He’ll work so hard to complete a good film that he’s stayed up for hours editing a film to meet a deadline. Summary

For this project I created a short film about a day in my life. I worked on my planning skills and my time management in order to get the large task of completing a film done. This was difficult as it was my first solo film bit I’m still glad I did it.

Hi my name is Carlson and this is a day in my life. After I wake up I immediately get ready for school by eating breakfast, brushing my teeth, etc. My friend picks me up and we head to school. At school I have math, history, a 10 minute break in between where I hang out with my friend Delilah, and film all before lunch. I then get a much needed break and get to hang out with my friends at lunch. After,I have science, Spanish 2, and English before I get to be done with school. From there I carpool to the climbing gym where I’ll be for the next few hours. I do some homework and read on my phone a bit before climbing team practice starts! It’s always a lot of fun even though it’s difficult. After that I head home and sit down on the couch and eat dinner while watching tv. Finally I relax for a bit by playing some video games before getting into bed. I read my book for 30 minutes in bed and fall asleep. This project helped me see how I use my own time and what I could do to better manage it. This was my day in a life. Film and music fades out.

What I learned and Problems I Solved

The most important thing I learned from this project was how difficult it is to make a film with only one person and how necessary it is to have a team to help and have ideas.

I solved the problem of how to make a pie chart when it said I had too many groups in Adobe illustrator bye editing the pie chart to be multiple and has grayed out sections, instead of one chart.

I solved multiple problems with figuring out how to film alone bye using mounts, things to hold up my phone, and moving shots.
